Shore Getaway Guide

File photo of Wildwood, New Jersey

By now, you've undoubtedly sniffed that promise in the air.

That twinge of heat, of warmth, of sunlight. Of summer.

With summer just around that next turn of the calendar page, it's time to get ready for a trip to the Jersey Shore.

We asked you to tell us your favorite places and experiences at the Jersey Shore. And you responded. What follows are your picks for the best in 10 categories.

ACTIVITY WITH KIDS | BEACHES | BOARDWALK | BOARDWALK GAME/RIDE | BOARDWALK SNACKS | HOTEL/INN | MINATURE GOLF | NIGHTLIFE | RESTAURANT | SHOPPING

Even if they're just digging a hole, the beach is best with kids. (TARIQ ZEHAWI / THE RECORD)

Activity with Kids

1. The beach: We realize this is pretty obvious, but ... just hanging out on the sand, digging for shells or crabs, or fishing along the shoreline and jumping waves is enough to entertain your children. After all, they are at the beach.

2. Amusement/water parks: Breakwater Beach at Casino Pier, 800 Ocean Terrace, Seaside Heights; 732-793-6488 or casinopiernj.com.

Fantasy Island Amusement Park, 320 Seventh Ave., Beach Haven; 609-492-4000 or fantasyislandpark.com.

Jenkinson's Boardwalk, 300 Ocean Ave., Point Pleasant Beach; 732-892-0600 or jenkin sons.com.

Lucky Leo's Arcade, 315 Boardwalk, Seaside Heights. 732-793-1323 or luckyleosamusements.com.

Raging Waters at Morey's Piers, 3501 Boardwalk, Wildwood; 609-522-3900 or moreyspiers.com.

Storybook Land, 6415 Black Horse Pike, Egg Harbor Township; 609-641-7847/0103, ext. 5, or storybookland.com.

Honorable Mention: The boardwalk, for biking, riding surreys or simply strolling.
